How to Become a Data Scientist
Let’s talk about a sexy job in the future, that’s data scientist. I‘ve learned about it almost three month’s ago and ther’s so many my friends asked me about that. So, what is data science all about ?, data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data in various forms, both structured and unstructured, similar to data mining.
A data scientist is someone who is better at statistics than any software engineer and better at software engineering than any statistician.
Data scientist is a composite from data analyst and data engineer, they have mindset to be an intuitive data addicts. They have must to role too, its collect the data, process and perform statistical data analysis, develop, build, test and maintain architecture (such as databases and large scale processing systems). Itsn’t just a buzz, a trend, or a fad, it’s revolutions that’s changing the world with it’s real impact.
Then why must data science that must to be a sexy job ?, the google’s chief economist said “I keep saying that the sexy job in the next 10 years will be statisticians. And i’m not kidding”, and if we search in glassdoor.com data scientist the first job in America for 2016 and 2017, and until now, that’s same.
So many data scientist applied in industry, like technology, marketing services, financial services, retail, consulting, gaming and many more. Ther’s so many companies hiring data scientist too, it’s like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask in the field of search engine and digital marketing. Facebook, Tweeter, LinkedIn, Tumblr in the field of sosial network and finance and e-comerce like amazon, PayPal, ebay and many more.
And how to be ?
Stept 1 develop your skils in algebra, statistics, and machine learning. Someone who better statistic and right balance it’s the first thing that we have to learn.
Step 2 learn about big data, if someone want to be data scientist they have to handle the huge data, and try it to learn in online courses (BTW, i learn in udacity and data camp).
Step 3 we must have knowledge about database, the software such as MySQL, Oracle etc.
Step 4 learning coding, try to become a coder, until you are coding, than you’ll not become good data scientist (use Python or R to try your code as data scientist).
Step 5 data wrangling, visualization and reporting. We should be a master for this step because we have converting raw data into a easy to study form.
Step 6 Real project experience, try to practice your skil, you can take the data from https://www.kaggle.com/, this’s home for data scientist.
Step 7 Look for knowledge every whare, don’t stick for idle, works for a groups and work with a groups.
Step 8 Increare the communication skils, explaining data analysis to the respective peoples.
Step 9 Stay up to date with data scientist community.
